Java - Get It Now

Spring Framework
Overview:
webPhoto Server takes a little more effort to set up, but works well if you already have a Mac OS X, Windows, Linux or Solaris server and you do not need a GUI application to start and stop webPhoto.

Software Requirements:
webPhoto is a Java web application, which means that you must have a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) that supports version 1.4.1 or higher. Use Software Update on Mac OS X or click here for a direct download (note: 10.2.6 or higher required for Java 1.4 on Mac OS X). Visit Sun Microsystems' download page if you need a JVM for Windows, Linux or Solaris.
You also must have a properly installed server that supports the Java Servlets 2.4 and JavaServer Pages 2.0 (or higher) specifications. Caucho Resin is a very fast and (relatively) easy to configure server. Apache Tomcat is also a widely supported server. Both are free.
The computer running webPhoto does not need to have the iPhoto application on it, but it does need to be able to access the "iPhoto Library" folder that iPhoto stores its files in.
  1. Java 1.4 (or higher)
  2. Java Servlet 2.4/JavaServer Pages 2.0 (or higher) Server
  3. "iPhoto Library" folder from iPhoto 2, 4 or 5

Installation Instructions:
  1. Download webPhoto
IconClick here to download webPhoto Server. The file is a Java "WAR" (Web ARchive) file - essentially a "bundled up" file that the servlet container knows how to automatically install. Note that the ".war" file is inside a ".zip" archive, so you will have to unzip the ".war" before proceeding to the next step.
If you're having compatibility problems with webPhoto 1.4, click here to download version 1.3.5.
  2. Install webPhoto
Put the webPhoto.war file into your servlet container's "webapps" folder. Start your servlet container if it is not already running. The container should automatically decompress and start up webPhoto.
  3. Set Up webPhoto
Point your web browser at http://yourservernamehere/webPhoto/ directory. Since webPhoto has not been set up yet, you will be directed to the Site Administration page. Enter the path to your iPhoto Library folder by using the pop-up folder chooser. You should also change the default administrator password at this point or delete that account and create your own administrator account. Click "Save", and webPhoto will read your iPhoto Library.

If you need to get back to the Site Administration page and you have not created any other administrator accounts, the default administrator username is "admin" and the default password is "[350z]" (without the quotes, of course, but with the brackets).
